Airplanes, helicopters and … buildings that witnessed the history of flight and the dreams of men … this is Volandia.

The biggest Italian Park and Museum dedicated to the dream of flight is located inside the restored workshops that hosted the Officine Aeronautiche Caproni, founded in 191O: a fascinating journey in the history of flight, from the pioneers to the conquest of space. We will tell you the stories of the companies (Caproni, Agusta, Aermacchi, Siai Marchetti) and of the personalities that have made the history of the province of Varese (the “winged province”) and of the national and international aerospace industry.

The exhibition is organized in themed areas that can be explored freely, in the order preferred by each visitor: Aeronautics, Transport, Space and Automotive Design. Nonetheless we suggest, once you have visited the modeling section and the Forms of Flight, to proceed in the Officine Caproni area visit the aerostatic section and then the large Fixed Wing pavilion. As soon as you leave, look left and you will see our “big planes” with Malpensa airport in the background, then go on to and have a look at the helicopters in the Rotary Wing pavilion. At this point you will be near our restaurant, the children’s area and the flight simulators, all ideal places for a little break before carrying on through the drone area to discover the future of the flight. You have reached the end of the Aeronautics section, you can freely visit the Ogliari Transport Museum, an outdoor area with trains, trams and many other ground vehicles used for public transport, and then go back the northern part of the museum to discover the history of the conquest of space, not forgetting to visit the planetarium, and the temporary exhibitions dedicated to Flaminio Bertoni (design) and the Carrozzeria Bertone (cars).

While walking remember to look carefully at the buildings that now host the museum and that many years ago witnessed the birth of the Italian aeronautic industry.
